Richmond, VA – Bass King Pro Team Angler Randy Howell had quite the Father’s Day weekend as he ended the family-oriented weekend by taking home the victory at the 2013 BASS Northern Open on Virginia’s James River.  The victory did not come easy, however, as the Alabama Pro had to overcome a day one culling error that penalized him.

Ultimately, the error didn’t matter though, as Randy weighed in three consecutive limits – all of which came in over 15 pounds – to post a total of 47-11.  This beat runner up Mike Hicks by a weight of 6 pounds, 1 ounce.

While Howell won a prize package that included cash, as well as a Nitro Z9 boat powered by a Mercury 225 Pro XS outboard, packaged with a tandem axel trailer, Minn Kota Maxxum 80 trolling motor and Lowrance HDS-7 electronics – he won something much more valuable than the items listed above.

So long as Randy fishes the remaining two Northern Opens scheduled for this year, he will have clinched himself a berth into next February’s Bassmaster Classic at Lake Guntersville, in his home state of Alabama.  This will be the Elite Series Pro’s 12th appearance in the Super Bowl of bass fishing, where he will look for his first victory at the coveted event.
